This is why clients won’t pick up your calls.
This single technique will help you finally get a hold of busy clients.
Have you ever tried to call someone and you can never seem to get through? Maybe they have an assistant that answers your calls saying, “Sorry, Bob is busy right now, you’ll have to try him again another time.” If this happens enough you start to wonder whether this person is actively trying to avoid you or maybe they’re blocking you from getting in touch. Now, this might be true, but what I’ve noticed over the years is that our timing in calling can be off.
I’ve found that if I call people 5 minutes or 10 minutes past the hour, like at 10:08 in the morning, I can’t get hold of people. This is why clients won’t answer your calls; a lot of people’s calendars are scheduled on the hour. For so long I wasn’t sure what I could do about it, that’s until I came up with this simple technique – the ‘1:53 Technique’
So if you call 7 minutes before the hour, like 1:53 instead of 2:00, you are actually going to be able to get hold of people. I’ve found that this is usually when people are in between meetings or tasks on their calendars. Clients are much more likely to answer your calls during these times compared to earlier in the hour.
Once you get a hold of this person, it’s not as simple as rushing through what you need to say. A tip for you would be to not try and cram all of your talking points into a 3-minute phone call. Instead, use that short time window to set up a zoom meeting. You could even ask to have a longer call when you both have the time. This way you aren’t putting time pressure on either you or your potential client.
Be scientific in your calling. Be specific with the time that you choose. So maybe it’s 9:53 for you, trying to reach someone before the 10:00 AM rush. It could even be 3:53 before their final 4:00 PM meeting. Either way, you are sure to get a hold of more people during your day and close more sales.
